Was not impressed. Our server and service was great which is why there was 2 stars given. We went for Prime Rib night and had lackluster iceberg lettuce salad, and under performing cuts of Prime Rib. Baked potato was good but how can you screw that up, the mashed potatoes my daughter got, were at least partially fake (dehydrated/powdered). Best thing I had was the Brandy Alexander. Worst part was the super strong smell of damp basement where we were sitting. I had to move seats, and it was still SO bad, we put a napkin and menu over the floor vent we sat by. Decor is beyond creepy, kinda like Grandmas house but not in a good way. I'd rather go to Fireside in Sugar Grove.

Incredible "Thanksgiving Dinner" wrapped up to go w/ all the fixins. All the hot items were covered in Saran wrap to stay pipping hot for the long ride home. Everything mentioned on menu was included. My server Cindy was excellent. Very affordable prices for a high quality meal. Turkey dinner is Sunday afternoons only. Check their website for menu & daily specials. Can't wait to go back!

I usually don't order steak... just not the biggest fan. However, I ordered the filet last night. It was perfectly medium-rare, just as ordered. Cut like butter and tasted amazing. I have food allergies, which makes dining out challenging at times, but the waitress and kitchen assured me that my food was free of any of my allergens and my food still came out amazing. It is old school, considering the fact that you get a cracker basket, sliced veggies, and bread to start. Plus, you get a lot of food for what you pay. Believe me, I just moved to the area from the DC area with my husband who grew up in Sycamore. He said that the restaurant hadn't changed since he went as a kid. And, compared to DC prices, we are saving big money! Cozy setting for a nicer dinner out. Staff was very attentive and helpful - my water glass was never empty. They have a limited wine list, but giant pours for around $6 per glass.

My best friend and I went to Sorrento's to celebrate our birthdays on Saturday, and I have to say that our experience was somewhat mixed. First off, I was given a beautiful and tasty slab of prime rib, and the mashed potatoes were excellent. But, although my prime rib and mashed potatoes were great, both were barely warm when served. My friend said that the strip steak she ordered was cooked to medium rare, but she really had a hard time cutting it, and her mashed potatoes were barely warm, as well. The onion soup, (plain, not French onion) was like lukewarm, greasy dishwater with a few onion strings in it. Thank goodness the salads were fresh, with decent dressings, although they were average iceberg with a few baby lettuce leaves thrown in as an accent. We really enjoyed the relish tray, mostly because it isn't something you find at restaurants much anymore, and it provided a nice break from the same old, same old salads. No, we didn't send back our soup, or our meals to be (re?)heated, because we've both had bad experiences in other restaurants sending things back to the kitchen. After a long discussion, we've decided we probably will try Sorrento's again, but next time we will be much more aware of what not to order, and will be keeping on top of the food temp. We have to wonder whether coming in early to eat was a good idea, and if that was the reason that nothing was at serving temp except the salad and the relish tray! As a final note, we want to emphasize that the staff is a great group of people, always pleasant and warm.

We had our company party here last night, it is a bit of a drive for me living in Chicago but was of so worth it as the Steak Lover that I am I had the prime Rib and it was perfect you could of almost cut it with a butter knife, nice and juicy and oh so full of flavor, this was one of if not the best prime rib i have ever eaten and I have had prime rib all over from mom and pop places too Morton's steak house service was great they have a nice room in the basement for private parties and they don't charge to use the room my boss said, makes me sad I didn't go to the dinner last year I truly missed out on a great dinner last year I won't be missing any more after that meal I had the cheese cake it was good think it may have been Eli's but I recommend the chocolate cake it was huge piece and tasty also I tried some, they also have a flaming ice cream they put a piece of ice in brandy then put it on top of ice cream and light I was told it is very good not on the menu that I know of so have to ask for it

This place is a great hidden gem for steak and other terrific meals. I haven't had anything but the prime rib dinner for the last 20 or 30 times I have been there. The baked French onion soup is awesome, the blue cheese is homemade and it is always what I get on my salad. This place is older looking and the crowd is also mostly 55+. I really like this place and will continue to be a regular. The only thing I wish they would change is the wait staff uniforms- they are so dated! They look like something a polygamist cult would be forced to wear. Otherwise, go there!

Even living in the suburbs, my wife and I still make the drive out here. Definitely an old school Wisconsin supper club feel. Decor is a little dated, but we definitely don't come to admire sconces. Service is always top notch and more than willing to accommodate the large groups we typically go with. The food is some of the best in the area. My wife typically tries the same thing. I have been stuck on prime rib for the duration of time we've been coming here. Simply put, the best prime rib I've ever had.

With Johnnys in Dekalb closing, we "refound" this hidden gem. While my wife does not like the decor, I find it very appealing. Like going to your grandparents house in Wisconsin. In fact, it has a Wisconsin supper club feel. The Prime Rib is second to none and very inexpensive, with the larger cut going for around 22 bucks. Side choices are plentiful and the staff very friendly. This is easy to show up here casual or dressed to the nines and still feel "in place". They bring out a cheese dip and veggie tray with bread when you sit down. TVs are only in bar and I do not think they have wifi, both are pluses for us. Kids will most likely feel at home here as well. Chicken ribs, steaks, fish are all on the menu. We have tried much of it and never been disappointed. Even when the lot looks full, we have never waited for a seat. This is probably due to the fact that it is almost TARDIS like being bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside. Highly recommended.

Filet Mignon cooked medium rare. Spot On! It cut like butter! The mashed potatoes were good. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the price was right. They still serve the same creamy garlic salad dressing that I had 30+ years ago and it was delish!

Go to Sorrento's if you are in the boonies and need to satisfy your prime rib or steak hankering at a reasonable price. A definite supper club feel, this place is a great venue for a meal with the baby boomers. We took mom here for Mother's Day, and it is great for a late lunch or early dinner on a Sunday. The filets were good, cooked perfectly. My dad said the lamb was a bit overlooked. They serve fish too, but none of us tried it. Try the baked French onion soup for a heartier appetizer to your meal, because the salad is lackluster. For dessert we tried the carrot cake and chocolate cake. Save your appetite, fill yourself up with the steak or go somewhere else for dessert because the cakes were dry and bland. Service was fine, but a bit slow on the drink refills and clearing away plates. Prices are reasonable for the cut of meat and all that is included with dinner. I'm not hating this place; it has a few things that are really good, and others that could use improvement. But I'm sure I will be back with my parents in the future - and I'll focus on the simple filet and skip (or forgive) the rest. 3 stars Last visited 5/12/13

Old School Super Club all the way! Is the decor dated? Yes An attentive wait staff? Yes Is it dark inside with soft lighting? Yes Oak wall panels with a wood beam ceiling? Yes A separate bar area for a cocktail before dinner? Yes Before ordering, do they serve a relish tray to munch on? Yes Do they serve the best prime rib cooked to your specifications? Yes O.K.! But will I need a doggie bag for a midnight snack? Depending, but Yes!

The portions and the prices are unreal! The food was good, but not great outstanding. I am by no means a prime rib expert, but I thought mine was a on the fatty side. The size of the prime rib was amazing and it came with a side, soup, and a salad! I tried my sister in law's chicken parm and I would order that again in a heartbeat. Everyone raved about the au-gratin potatoes and I thought they were decent, but not even in the same ballpark as Carsons. Overall this place is a solid 3.5, but I had to round up for the huge portions at a fraction of city prices!

  • Brian C.

I thought it was fabulous. Yes like another review said it does remind you of a dinner club but the food is great. Since there are not to many choices in Sycamore for steaks. This place is great. I will be back when back in the area.

If you're this far west of Chicago, almost to DeKalb, Sorrento's is a good dinner alternative. Sorrento's is a large portions, big tables, big families and birthday parties, Italian and American restaurant with a few good surprises. No one in Chicago serves giant pieces of prime rib for $22, like the do here. The food is good and basic, or the locals wouldn't keep coming back. People don't come here for exotic vegetables or the presentation of the desserts. The vegetables are basic and overcooked, and that's just the way it is. But the steaks are good, the shrimp are big, and the desserts are large. Service is good.

Been coming here for several years now. They have a wonderful staff. From Anita at the front door to every server I have had there, they are attentive and treat you like they've known you forever. Their drinks are good and stiff, I'm a whiskey sour drinker so I would know. They also have reasonably priced wines and some decent beer choices. I like that they bring you a relish tray, crackers, bread and this interesting cheddar spread to start (very 'Wisconsinish'). You get soup AND salad with your meal. Prime rib can't be beat. Go on Wednesday for a good deal. Ribs and steaks are excellent too. Broiled haddock is good too. It's a huge, meaty piece with just the right amount of butter and seasoning. LOVE their au gratin potato side dish. They do a Friday night fish fry which is good, but it's not beer battered so don't go expecting it to be as you will be disappointed. The ambiance is out of date, but for some reason it adds to the feel of the place so I don't consider it to be a bad thing. Save room for a brandy ice for dessert. Yummy :) I would give this place five stars, but I have never been impressed with their Italian dishes. Admittedly, being an Italian I am pickier about that than most, but the fact of the matter is that the owners are Italian and in my opinion they could make things like the tortellini or the eggplant parm better if they really wanted to. All in all the good far surpasses the negatives so I highly recommend Sorrento's to anyone in the area.

We had a great meal here this past Sunday evening...nice service and good food. My husband had the highly recommended prime rib...it was huge, tender, and perfectly cooked. I had the strip steak and shrimp special...also very nice. The sautéed mushrooms were a pleasant surprise. We both chose the French onion au gratin soup...good but nothing special, the salad which was good with a nice chunky bleu cheese dressing. My twice baked potato was just okay. The young waitress was very pleasant and helpful. Brief but reasonable wine list. We will definitely be back!

Good food but only slightly average service. Overall the place is old and caters to a older crowd. Good food, nice portions but it's all a little bland. They are well known for prime rib and steaks. We hit these guys maybe twice a year.

I went to Sorrento's on the recommendation from someone who is local. The decor reminds me of a banquet hall and is a little dated but still a nice restaurant. I ordered or the specials and decided on steak and a twice baked potato. I prefer my steak well done and it came out pretty good. Sometimes places comprehend burnt=well done but Sorrento's did a nice job. Unfortunatly my twice baked potato was still cold in the center so by the time it was replaced I was half way done with my steak. I will probably go back to give it another try. It was not a bad experience but not an amazing, can't get off my mind experience.

Best steakhouse in Dekalb county. Prime Rib is second to none! You will not go away hungry, from the time you sit down until you leave the food doesn't stop. It starts with bread, crackers and fresh vegetables with a excellent cheese spread. Then comes your soup and salad followed up by your entree. The service is excellent and your drinks are never empty.

HOLLY DEAD SLAB OF FAT COW ON A PLATE! Don't even bother looking at anything else on the menu but the prime rib! No fo reals dawg! This place don't joke when it comes to the prime rib! My piece must have been close to 2 inches thick, nice and pink just like I like it and juicy! My only regret and maybe it is a good thing is that they do not have a place in the city. If you find yourself in what I call Corn county this is a must stop and stuff your face place!

Due to having family in the City, we have dined at numerous trendy Chicago restaurants. Always leave feeling like we've been raped. Thirteen-fifteen bucks for a 3 ounce martini and never less that $500 for a party of 4. Keep the fancy decor and "see and be seen" venues. We will take Sorrento's "dated" decor any day of the week. Generous pours for martinis at cheap prices, relish/cheese spread/salad/soup/entree all included, quality entrees, awesome dessert martinis (brandy alexander/pink squirrel are our favs), and always reliable service....I can deal with dated decor. It's real. The staff is real. The food is excellent. Thank you Sorrentos for not changing!!

Filet Mignon cooked medium rare. Spot On! It cut like butter! The mashed potatoes were good. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the price was right. They still serve the same creamy garlic salad dressing that I had 30+ years ago and it was delish!
